Here is an example of sayings that appear behind the deck cards. The sayings are funny, informative or praise the Italian culture or language. There are 54 sayings in total to make you smile, laugh and talk about enjoyable subjects.
And, they are uplifting, of course!!
Below are examples of the images of some of the individual cards. They are very colorful and attractive. There are many others such as: the Renaissance, Divine Comedy, Soccer, Prosecco, Bella Figura, Vespa, Tomato, Pasta, Tower of Pisa, Cappuccino and many other more playful images.
THE ITALIAN LOTTERIA was created and designed by Lucy Acevedo Gest with the help of some revered Italian masters from the past. Ms. Gest is a Mexican-American graphic designer living in Santa Mónica, California. When she was at Stanford University pursuing her undergraduate degree she had the opportunity to study abroad and she quickly selected Florence, Italy, to be her home for six months because she loved all things Italian. Once there, she continued developing her language skills and a deep fondness for Italy, its art, its culture, its cuisine and especially its people.
In early 2020, she was deeply disturbed at the reports of how significantly COVID was impacting Italy and causing so much sorrow. As the world retreated into home isolation, she turned to her digital computer skills to maintain serenity in her life in the face of the menacing COVID pandemic. By chance, she rediscovered her old Mexican Lotería game which she played happily as a young child. She then hit upon the idea of making something that would make Italians, small and big, smile, laugh and identify with. And so, LA LOTTERIA ITALIANA was born!
After months of much digital art work and inspiration in her home, she produced it in the interest of raising the spirit, love, and appreciation of Italy’s wonderful culture and language, not only by its people, but the entire world.
Long live Italy, its resilient people and all who play this fun game! She thanks everyone who purchases her game and wishes them lots of luck and much enjoyment!
